The process—A breakthrough in titanium processing
MetCon’s patented electrochemical process replaces multiple, costly, high yield-loss conditioning steps with low yield loss steps. Dangerous, difficult to control hydrofluoric and nitric pickling is replaced by a repeatable, environmentally safe electrochemical process. Both are done in tanks utilizing a proprietary electrolyte and unconventional rectification.
Cooling cracks are opened and crack tips are blunted, allowing further processing with substantially less bulk metal removed than traditional grinding or machining. Customary acid pickling and chemical milling outcomes of alpha case removal, defect reveal, and gauge removal are achieved but now fully automated and with repeatable precision.
The process works with large bloom, slab, plate and sheet, intermediate octagons or round-cornered squares, smaller billet and rolling mill input, small cross sections. and finished products such as forgings, castings, and additive manufactured parts.
Regardless what your current conditioning process is, MetCon can increase your yield of saleable product from 10% to greater than 20%. MetCon’s pickling and chemical milling processes reduce cost and achieve personal and environmental safety levels never before possible.
